Masques
The Story
"Masques" was the third studio release from this British jazz-rock group, featuring Atomic Rooster guitarist John Goodsall. The 1978 all-instrumental effort was recorded with Chuck Berghi (ex-Al DiMeola) on drums, replacing Phil Collins. "Masques" is an eclectic blend of sounds, featuring keyboard work by Peter Robinson (who had played with Stanley Clarke), that offsets the high intensity guitar stylings advanced by Goodsall. Brand X explored long-form compositions on this release, with three compositions checking in at over eight minutes. Even with (or perhaps, because of) the new members, the Brand X musicianship remained at a high level.
