The Story
"My album "On Solid Ground", released in 1989," states Carlton, "was almost killed by a gunshot, but it was saved by God, prayers, friends, doctors, therapists, more prayers and months of healing." "On Solid Ground" features rock solid Carlton jazz/rock compositions (funky jazz, R&B, rock influences) as well as great instrumental covers of Steely Dan's "Josie" and Eric Clapton's "Layla." Carlton's playing is distictive and biting at times, and it marked the return of this fusion legend after an attempt on his life at his home, several years prior.
