The Story
The Rough Guide to Jazz writes, "Guitarist Larry Coryell's early-1970s work, following his stint with Gary Burton, was crucially inspired by the fusion forays of Miles Davis. Of the two groups heard here, one quintet (filled with Davis associates such as Chick Corea, Billy Cobham and fellow guitarist John McLaughlin) has a very jazzy attitude, while the line-up with Alphonse Mouzon on drums is more tinged with show-biz excess. Originally compiled in 1975 from out-takes of the album Spaces and an incomplete Eleventh House session featuring trumpeter Mike Lawrence, "Planet End" is an excellent sampler of the period." For lover of hardcore jazz fusion, go to the source Coryell, McLaughlin and their contemporaries.
