King Of Clubs
The Story
"King Of Clubs" was ex-Racer X guitarist Paul Gilbert's first official solo CD. Bruce Bouillet came out to Gilbert's studio in Las Vegas and put up with his completely insane work schedule, futile attempts at drumming, and incomprehensable studio wiring. After realizing that his drumming was not really "world-class", Gilbert had Jeff Martin and Pat Torpey come out to finish the tracks. "King Of Clubs" represents Gilbert's first serious attempt at lead vocals and pop songwriting, and marked a change from his typical metal-influenced style. You'll find yourself transported from late '60s and '70s to the more modern sounds of the '90s, with a dash of classical (Bach's "The Jig") and Gilbert humor (of course). Even shredheads will find this CD worth getting for the last track, the 'album within an album', the 19-minute plus, non-stop, blazing jam session (entitled "The Jam") between Gilbert and Bouillet that will rinse the pop from your mouth.
