Should You Really Mute Your Guitar Strings?

If you keep updated with my videos, you might have seen the one I posted in which I went over my top 8 tips that every guitar player should know (if you haven’t seen that one yet, I will be reposting it below). The video received a lot of interesting comments and questions that I would like to answer here.

As I was recording this particular video, I only really considered mentioning these 8 tips as they are usually things that don’t come up in standard guitar lessons. I had not realized just how deep someone might go into any of the tips I gave.

The one that caused the most stir was the one about muting your guitar with tape or a hair band. I also mentioned using a sock, which is definitely an option that should only be saved for extremely desperate situations!

But you all had a lot to say about that tip that had me really thinking about it in a new way. While I was answering these questions, I was able to learn a lot myself. So I thank you for that! I really do enjoy having the chance to answer questions and interact with you. So if you have any further thoughts that you would like to share, don’t hold back!

Have a look at the following (short) video, and let me know if that answers your questions!
