The Story
A brilliant anthology of Hedges' solo work, "Beyond Boundaries: Guitar Solos" features acoustic guitar-wizard Michael Hedges doing what he does best: using complex, jazzy tunings and interesting picking/tapping techniques that typically causes mortal guitarists to point to their speakers in disbelief. Michael Hedges did for the solo acoustic guitar what Jimi Hendrix did for the electric guitar--completely redefined the possibilities of the instrument. From the composer's perspective, he used his guitar to orchestrate tone poems whose sounds were unlike anything previously imagined for a solo instrument. Almost fully instrumental (very brief, humorous vocal on "The Funky Avocado"), the CD covers Hedges' entire career and celebrates the legacy of this groundbreaking artist. Even after his death, his music continues to inspire a generation of players - "Beyond Boundaries: Guitar Solos" is required listening for this generation... and the next.
